Akamai Bolsters Content Delivery Network, Acquiring Web Optimization Firm Blaze Software

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Content delivery network provider Akamai Technologies announced on Wednesday it has acquired performance optimization technology provider Blaze Software in a cash transaction.
This marks the second acquisition for leading CDN operator Akamai in the past couple months, which recently purchased rival CDN provider Cotendo for a net cash payment of about $268 million.
A faster-performing website is certainly beneficial for anyone operating a website, particularly for business owners. Hosting companies that partner with CDN operators and performance optimization providers stand to provide added value to their customers, which of course translates into more business and greater revenue.
This deal, along with Limelight Networks’ purchase of performance optimization provider AcceloWeb last May, signals the growing importance of performance optimization technology on the direction of content delivery networks.
Blaze’s optimization technology will complement Akamai’s website acceleration solutions with technology designed to optimize the speed at which a web page is rendered, regardless of end user device.
The end result is the faster transmission of content and a faster rendering of the page, whether served to a PC, tablet or smartphone. As a cloud-based service that requires no software or code changes by the customer, Blaze’s offering is designed to work with any website.
Akamai plans to integrate Blaze’s technology into its global cloud platform for helping enterprises provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere.
